Jesus tells us that as the salt of the earth, everywhere we go, we’re going to bring the taste of heaven down to earth. When salt is overpowered by the presence of other things, it loses its ability to influence. When Jesus warns us about losing our saltiness, he’s not talking about table salt; he’s talking about fertilizer salt, which is an agent of preservation, flavoring, and human flourishing.
